Peace and sport is an amazing organization that has 4 main pillars: Mobilize, Connect, Demonstrate, Advocate.
The organization takes concrete actions to provide the federating, educational and social impact of sport through sports diplomacy initiatives and field programs with the support of our Champions for Peace club.
Peace and Sport works in close collaboration with some of the leading international organizations and in association with UNESCO and UNHCR.
Its main values are 6: neutrality, resilience, inclusion, independence, equity and dialogue.
Today I want to focus more on a specific event that they are organizing for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6, declared by the UN in 2013.
They share some of the most relevant stories about sport and development and I would like to share a story of social inclusion.
This is the story of Olga, a Special Olympics athlete from Greece.
She said exactly these words:
"Today I share my story to inspire other people with Down syndrome to do sports and to explore their talents. 💪
When still a child, the Special Olympics family embraced me and today I am an athlete, a World Champion. My achievements helped my community accept me.
Through sports I felt loved, confident, independent and capable of many things.
Today, I raise my #WhiteCard for inclusion and equity through sports." ⬜
Sport can really help build a better future. In reference to the yellow and red card in the world of sport, the #WhiteCard is the beginning of a movement around the symbol of the #WhiteCard as a sign of commitment to peace efforts around the world and where small actions make a difference.
